Most items do not require special attention while packing. Items that can maintain their shape are one such example. Lampshades, on the other hand, count as soft and delicate items that require more attention. So they may be a little trickier to pack and move. Fortunately, with a few tips and tricks, you will soon be packing your lampshades for moving like a pro.

A step-by-step guide to packing your lampshades

To ensure your lamps and lampshades are packed safely, you will need the following packing materials:

  • Boxes that can fit the shades perfectly.
  • Packing tape
  • Packing paper
  • Marker for labeling
  • Bubble wrap

Instructions for packing:

  1. First, remove the bulb from the lamp and then put it gently on the side.
  2. Get a screwdriver to unscrew the lamp shade and set it aside with the bulb.
  3. Next, you will have to wrap the packing paper around the base of the lamp and cover all delicate areas.
  4. Keep wrapping the paper all around the body till every part is well covered. Secure everything with the packing paper.
  5. Wrap the plug and wire around the base too and then secure with packing paper and packing tape.
  6. If you think that the paper is not enough, use more till there is a light padding around the body of the lamp.
  7. Place your lampshade in the center of your packing paper and fold the edges of the paper into the middle of the shade, rotating it as you go to ensure that every part is completely covered.
  8. Finally, place the bulb on top of the packing paper and tightly wrap it with a couple of sheets.
  9. Make certain that all items are placed in the same box. If you're concerned about the bulb getting lost, tape it to the lamp base and clearly label the box it goes in, marking it as fragile and even listing some of the items so your removal crew knows to treat with extra care.
  10. In the end, when you place the lamps in the moving boxes fill up the space with fillers such as old blankets, or sweaters to cushion them.
